Description:

Revisiting My Value as a Woman

Almost a year after the Marawi Siege, the situations of the internally displaced people have not significantly improved. There are still thousands who are in evacuation centers or are staring with relatives and friends. Despite the pronouncement that the city of Marawi has been liberated, people are still at a loss as to where they stand.

The most vulnerable and almost powerless due to the siege are women and children. Since the women rear the children and the children are thus dependent on them, it is imperative that women feel their value and importance which have been diminished, in many cases, to household chores.

Employing the Art of Hosting as workshop methodology, the activity seeks:

  • to help Marawi women IDPs to rediscover their role in society, especially in rearing peaceful and harmonious communities;
  • to empower women in their chosen roles to play in society; and
  • to provide women the needed space to be free and just be a woman.

The activity will gather 40 Marawi women IDPs who are presently staying in Iligan City. It will involve wokshops as well as lectures on:

  • The Role of Women in the Philippine Setting (Nelia G. Balgoa, DHS)
  • The Rights of a Woman (Hilton J. Aguja, PhD)
  • Women in Transformational Leadership (Ma. Cecilia M. Ferolin, PhD)
  • Engaging Others, Sharing Vision (Marilou F.S. Nanaman, PhD)
  • Caring for Myself (Saturnina S. Rodil, MA)
