True to its commitment to amplifying peacebuilding efforts and empowering youth-led initiatives, the ݮƵ-IIT Youth Chain of Peace (MYCoP) made a remarkable imprint, with members and initiatives recognized across multiple categories during the 3rd Pasigarbo sa Diyandi: Youth Leadership and Excellence Awards on September 5, 2025, at D’orchard, Bara-as, Tubod, Iligan City, illuminating the transformative role of young Iliganons in shaping the city’s future.
Pasigarbo sa Diyandi is a movement that affirms youth leadership is measured not by age but by passion, service, and purpose. Rooted in the Ten Centers for Youth Participation and symbolically woven into the cultural emblems of the Okir and the Panika, the event stands as a testament to Iligan’s heritage and aspirations.
Among the recognized youth leaders was Shakira Farhana Derico, who earned the Golden Award in the In-School Youth Leaders, College-Level Category. Recognized for her pioneering advocacy on environmental peace, Derico connects sustainability and peacebuilding to empower communities and foster harmony between people and the environment.
Further highlighting its achievements, MYCoP’s Jafar S. Zamora and Al-Gafar C. Mauna were recognized under the Outstanding Youth Leadership and Excellence Category. Mauna received the Special Award for Leadership and Advocacy, while Zamora was honored with the Special Award for Leadership and Governance. They were also awarded the Outstanding Youth Organization Project under the Global Mobility category through their co-founded initiative, Project REYAL. The said project has been widely recognized for raising awareness on scams, misinformation, and digital safety—an urgent advocacy in today’s digital-first world.
The roster of honorees also included Hiroge E. Gumila and Ariel Ebale II, who advanced to the interview stage, fulfilling their commitment to peace and youth empowerment through their advocacies.
Beyond individual achievements, MYCoP as an organization was recognized as a finalist in the Outstanding Youth Organization Project category through its flagship initiative, Peacepreneurship. Distinguished for its integration of economic empowerment and peacebuilding and security, the initiative emphasizes that livelihood creation and peace efforts are not mutually exclusive but mutually reinforcing. It also demonstrates MYCoP’s belief that peacebuilding goes beyond dialogue and must also transform everyday realities by expanding opportunities for sustainable growth.
This year’s recognition reaffirms MYCoP’s continuing legacy at Pasigarbo sa Diyand, having received recognition in 2024 for its contributions to peacebuilding and youth empowerment, demonstrating the organization’s consistency and growth rooted in advocacy, resilience, and service.
For the youth of MYCoP, these milestones are not a culmination but a call forward—a reminder to build a future where peace and empowerment are not distant aspirations but lived realities for all.
These achievements continue to highlight ݮƵ-IIT’s efforts to equip its students with youth-led initiatives that transform society.
